- 2003 Celler Marti Fabra Empordà Masia Carreras - Spain, Catalunya, Empordà
Decanted 5 hours. Medium purple. Nose of red fruits, charcoal, mineral, On the palate this has settled down with five hours decanting. Spices, floral, cinnamon, and cherry. While the nose and palate don't match up well the palate makes up for the lack of balance. I like the wine but it is not a mind blowing effort. (90 pts.) - 2004 Alonso del Yerro Ribera del Duero - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Dark purple. Nose of spice, dust, cherry, and floral. On the palate it features an abundance of spices, vanilla, oak, cherry, crushed rock and floral. Medium and concentrated finished. This wine was decanted 4 hours and it really opened up. For $25 a super value. I wonder if others who rated this so low didn't decant? (92 pts.) - 2004 Conde de Hervias Rioja - Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
Dark color. Cedar, cherry, rapsberries, and spice on the nose. Palate adds a bit of vanilla and cinnamon. Medium finish and concentrated wine. Nice overall. (92 pts.) - 2004 Bodegas AAlto Ribera del Duero AAlto - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Dark color. Nose of cherry, spice, floral and cedar. On the palate a bit of chocolate, spice, cedar, and floral. A bit of heat on this wine and firm tannins. I love the wine overall and it is the sixth time sampling it. Decant 4 plus on this one. (92 pts.) - 2004 Viñedos de Páganos Rioja El Puntido - Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
Dark color. Very subtle nose with raspberry, cedar and coffee. On the palate this wine shows coffee, smoke, scorched earth, and raspberry. Not a power house of a wine and I can't understand WE picking this wine of the year. (90 pts.) - 2003 Bodegas y Viñedos Alión Ribera del Duero - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Dark! On the nose black fruits, cedar, spice and leather. On the palate the wine is very intense and concentrated. Firm tannins and a medium to lengthy finish. This needs some cellar time to open up. 93+ (93 pts.) - 2007 Bodegas Borsao Campo de Borja - Spain, Aragón, Campo de Borja
Medium purple. Nose floral, spice and raspberry. Taste very spicy with floral, cherry and raspberry. Solid medium finish. A super deal for $4.50. (87 pts.)
Another great event!
One of the night was the 2003 Alion. Needs some time in the cellar but a nice wine. The AAlto continues to be a favorite and showed well tonight. Fun was had by all!
