Client Appreciation Event

Friday, April 24

Twice a year I host a Client Appreciation Event where we sample six amazing wines and each member brings an appetizer to share.  Always expect a super cult wine at this tasting and the 1998 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz was no exception.

The wines

2004 Aalto Ribera de Duero Spain

Color:  Medium red

Nose:  Vibrant and explosive from the glass with mineral, tar, floral

Taste:  Really clean wine without the heavy tannins.  Floral, mineral, smoke and nice fruit

Finish:  Concentrated with some sweet fruit and well integrated oak and vanilla

Evaluation:  This is a must buy and cellar selection.  A great 10 year anniversary wine 94 points

2003 Petrolo Galatrona IGT Italy (Merlot)

Color:  Dark purple

Nose:  Floral, earth, fruit

Taste:  Floral, earth, sweet fruits, leather

Finish:  Good acidity with dirt and a little gritty

Evaluation:  If this was $35 instead of $50 plus I would buy a few more bottles 91 points

2001 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape France

Color:  Medium purple but dirty

Nose:  Tar, spices, leather, raspberries

Taste:  Good acidity with mineral, leather, tar, meat, raspberries, floral

Finish:  Concentrated with firm tannins.  This wine should cellar for a long time

Evaluation:  This is not for everyone and classic  CDP quality.  The third bottle I have sampled and the first was 84, second 94 and this one is around 92 points

2005 Stephan L'Adventure Winery Estate Paso Robles Cuvee California

Color:  Dark purple

Nose:  Bacon, floral, mineral

Taste:  Floral, pepper steak, spices and oak

Finish:  Balanced with licorice, black pepper, oak, and bacon

Evaluation:  Cellar for some time as this is way to young 90 points

2002 Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Germany

Color: Medium gold

Nose:  Honey, slate, peach

Taste:  Peach cobbler, honey suckles, nice sour component

Finish:  Medium and concentrated with honey, slate, peach, and floral.  Super balanced wine

Evaluation: Wonderful wine from a great producer.  Third bottle and my scores have ranged from 91 to 94.  92 points
