Minneapolis Wine Club
Burgundy
Another great Minneapolis Wine Club Event and thanks to Christine for hosting and all of you who brought appetizers. A special thanks to Robert for bringing the Frederic Magnien as a bonus bottle!
We will be doing a serious exam of the Cote d'Or later in the fall.
- 2008 Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud Mâcon-Villages - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages (6/13/2010)
Another solid showing for this wine. A great $13 value and perfect for those who hate oaked Chards. Lemon, minerlas and orange peel along with good acidity make it a nice overall experience. (88 pts.) - 2005 Domaine Joseph Roty Marsannay - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay (6/13/2010)
Nice overall but I would highly advise to drink up. Floral, baked apples, spice and orange peel on this overall balanced wine. Good finish but this will not improve so drink up. (89 pts.) - 2005 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Drinking really well right now with shells, lemon, pear and green apple. On the finish it picks up candied appricots and shows good acidity. (91 pts.) - 2005 Walter Hansel Winery Chardonnay - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/13/2010)
Totally California Chardonnay and a fun comparison to the 2005 William Fevre Fourchaume. Ripe lemons, apples and pear fruits. Minerals and subtle oak on the palate. This wine also adds some carmel quality on the finish. I would not sit on this wine but it is still drinking well. (90 pts.) - 2005 Fernand & Laurent Pillot Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (6/12/2010)
Light red. Decanted 2 hours. Nose vibrant with cherry, minerals, cranberry and floral. On the palate cherry, minerals, earth, spices and good acidity. Medium finish and solid wine. (91 pts.) - 2006 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Classic Red Burg with wood, spice, floral, cranberry and some cellar funk. The funk blew off and a nice cherry element appeared on the palate. Good acidity and still firm tannins. I would hold for another 5 years and try again. (92 pts.) - 2005 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Drinking really well wiht floral, vanilla, wood, spices and minerals. On the palate some mushrooms and overall a balanced wine. Good acidity and my wine of the night at a recent Burgundy Tasting. (93 pts.) - 2000 Frédéric Magnien Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru (6/13/2010)
Some bricking. Reviewed on day two. Opened up a bunch and reveals floral, cherry, clay and mild funk. On the palate damp earth, floral, cherry, figs and clay. Good acidity and a medium finish. I would recommend drinking up if you have some of this left as I don't see it improving any. (91 pts.)
