1970 Château Beychevelle - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (6/24/2010)
Bordeaux, Italy and a Burg in Minneapolis: Still some life left but should have been consumed 20 years ago. Tar, carmel, spices and a touch of cherry. Color was still there. (84 pts.)

1983 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac $$$$$+

Color:  Brick red

Nose:  Dusty, cherry, pencil lead

Taste:  Dusty wine with cherry, pencil lead and earth

Finish:  Smooth tannins, some nice fruit still there

Evaluation: Solid wine with some age 92 points

1989 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac $$$$$+

Color: Medium purple

Nose:  Dark fruit, cedar, graphite, and stewed prunes

Taste:  Cedar, cherry, plums, pencil lead, and really powerful

Finish:  Long and complex wine that will age for 20 more years

Evaluation:  Great wine from a great vintage 95 points

1990 Chateau Brane Cantenac Margaux

Light purple.  Mineral and tobacco on the nose with a dirty, tired palate.  This wine appears to be on decline so drink up.  85 points

1990 Chateau Lagrange Saint-Julien

Color dark purple.  Wow on the nose and palate.  Cherry, oak, minerals, and cigar box are featured on this completely balanced wine.  Great, fresh acidity and this has some serious life left.  I need to source some of this wine.  My wine of the night!  94 points

1991 Chateau Leoville Las Cases St. Julien $$$$

Color:  Dark purple

Nose:  Truffles, cherry

Taste:  Truffles, cherry, vanilla, well integrated tannins

Finish:  Medium and pleasing

Evaluation:  Tied with the Lascombes for my wine of the night but and great contrast tot it.  Another reminder to age good Bordeaux.  92 points

1994 Angelus Saint-Emilion

Medium purple.  Aromas of tobacco, cocoa, cherry, cedar.  A tannic wine at this state and I don’t believe it was decanted.  This medium finishing wine features  coffee, cigar box, and minerals.  I would image this has some serious life left in it.  90 points

1994 Chateau Montrose Saint-Estephe

Medium purple.  A nose that packs a tobacco, ink, and oaky quality.  A little sweet fruit featuring cherries and plums is quickly revealed and then transforms into an earth dominated wine with oak, rustic flavors and vanilla.  A medium finish of moderate concentration.  I don’t see this wine evolving much more and would recommend drinking up in the next few years.  88 points

1995 Chateau Pichon Baron Pauillac

Medium purple.  Nose features pencil lead, sweet fruits, and earth.  Palate is concentrated with raspberries, pencil lead, and oak with a smooth finish.  This is a nice wine overall.  90 points

2000 Chateau Leoville Poyferre Saint-Julien

Dark purple.  There is an ink, black fruit, mineral and coffee featured on the nose.  This wine was very concentrated and would have been fun to try right out of the bottle.  I decanted 2 hours and regretted the decision.  One of the more fruity wines of the night.  92 points

2000 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (1/23/2010)
Minneapolis Wine Club Does Bordeaux; 1/22/2010-1/23/2010 (Kevin's House): Dark purple. This wine was not decanted and I highly recommend against it. It is a really delicate wine that will show its best in the first hours. Sampled 3 other times. Tonight Wow! Nose revealed impressive aromas of leather, gravel, charcoal, spice and raspberry. The palate was really interesting with a ton going on. A medium finish with perfect balance. No flaws on this wine tonight. I would highly recommend consuming this wine young as a sample 2 hours later did not reveal the pleasure of earlier in the night. (95 pts.)

2000 Chateau Calon Segar Saint Estephe

Dark purple.  Truffles, mineral, cherry on the nose.  This wine is multi layered and is very youthful.  I loved the balance of earth and fruit on this medium finishing wine.  92 points

2000 Chateau Rauzan Segla Margaux
